Teagan's birth story

On Monday March 11, I went into work like any other day. I was pretty used to having contractions but since I was no longer on any medication to stop or slow them, we were being pretty careful. I had a classical c section with Keira and there is a chance of an abruption if I ever had labor or even strong contractions. I called my doctor to tell him that my contractions were coming every 6-7 minutes or so and that though they didn't hurt that bad, I did have to hold my breath. He told me to come in and he would check me out. So, the girls and I went back to work until I had to go in. One of my girlfriends kept yelling at me to leave and go NOW instead of continuing to take clients. But, hey, I'm a tough broad. Plus, how many women can say they got to get waxed by a woman in labor?! My mom lived a few streets away from my work so she told me to come pick her up on my way to the doctor. When I got to Dr Coltons he checked me, asked me how my contractions were and promptly said, "Looks like we're having a baby today!" I may have freaked out a bit. I started crying. So, he revised his statement and said that it may not be today but to go over to the Women's evaluation unit to get checked out. They took me into one of the rooms, got me hooked up to the monitors and started the 50 questions. Jeremy was freaking out by this time wondering if we were or weren't having a baby today. I didn't know the answer so I told him to stay at work and I would call him when a decision was made. After an hour or so of monitoring and checking with anesthesia, my nurse told me that my contractions hadn't stalled out, it was pretty likely this was happening today and that I should call my husband because if they did decide to do surgery, I would happen pretty fast. Jeremy got there in record time and was only there a few minutes before it was officially decided that yes indeed, we were going to have a baby today. The next couple of hours were kind of a blur for me. They took me up to one of the new recovery rooms and got me ready for the surgery. My parents and Jeremy did a great job of keeping me calm and entertained. The anesthesiologist came in to give me the epidural and that's when I started to freak out inside. I was terrified but knew there wasn't any going back now. He did a great job and with minimal pain got me numbed up. I had a hard time keeping my eyes open but everyone kept asking me questions so I tried hard to stay awake. They wheeled me down the hall to the surgical room and got me on the table. It was time to have a baby!! Jeremy was allowed into the room then and he asked if he should peek over the curtain. I told him he probably shouldn't and I think he agreed. After what seemed like forever but was probably only a few minutes they said she was out. I heard her little squeak and a tiny cry and then it was over to the table to check her out. They got her mouth and nose cleaned out, wrapped her in a blanket and brought her over to me. I cupped her tiny little head and gave her a kiss. She was absolutely perfect and totally gorgeous. After letting me look at her for a minute they took her over to the table to check her out. I could hear her screaming and Jeremy kept telling her to "belt it out little girl". Guess he liked having a full term baby that could actually cry. My dr got me stitched up and told me I did fine. I got wheeled back into the recovery room and got to hold Teagan for the first time. I have to say I was pretty nervous that I wouldn't be able to love this baby as much as I loved Keira but I needn't have worried. I kept thinking to myself, she has the most perfect head! I guess I fell in love with her head first. Jeremy went down the hall to the waiting room to tell the family the good news and brought Keira back to meet her sister. She was intrigued. She helped change her diaper, and even got to help give her her first bath. We were allowed only two visitors at a time and there was a lot of family who wanted to meet her so we told Keira to go back out to the waiting room. That didn't go over well! She did not want to leave Teagan's side so she was allowed to stay. Good thing she's little and doesn't take up much room. Everyone got to meet Teagan and then everyone went home. After that we were wheeled down to our room where we stayed for the next 4 days. Well, that's what I remember about the birth. Thanks for reading. I just wanted to get it all written down before I forgot anything!
